In a historic development of the healthcare system, Chairman of Hill Areas Committee (HAC) Leishiyo Keishing on Wednesday inaugurated the much-needed operation theatre and diagnostic centre of Kamjong District Hospital.
Leishiyo Keishing, who is also the MLA of 43-Phungyar Assembly Constituency, lauded the initiatives of doctors and nurses of Kamjong District Hospital for successfully operating a patient at the newly inaugurated operation theatre.
The HAC chairman urged people to visit this very hospital in case of any sickness and registered at the OPD. “Let the doctors refer your case to other hospitals if need be. The government will give priority to the needy. Take this Hospital as your own, maintain and nurture well, extend love and concern to the medical fraternity,” he said.
He promised to look into the needs of the people of Kamjong District and provide necessary doctors, nurses, lab technicians and necessary equipment.
“Today the doctors and nurses have successfully operated on a patient. I have come to know that Rinchuila Zimik (16) of Langkhe Village has been operated successfully by a team of doctors and nurses led by Dr K. Soreingam (Anaesthetist) and Dr Mascot Ningshen (Surgeon). Dr Soreingam, an Assistant Professor of JNIMS, had come all the way from Imphal just to perform this operation and we are grateful for his service,” He said.
Leishiyo Keishing further said, “Due to the remoteness of our area, we are lacking in education and other developments. Let us concentrate to bring more development in our area through community support. Community support and interest can sustain the growth of our hospital. Let the facilities of Operation Theatre and Diagnostic Centre be a blessing for the area and ease our pain and sufferings.”
Deputy Commissioner of Kamjong Hungyo Worshang said that “if a minimum amount of Rs. 2 crore can be invested, we can bring a dramatic change to the Kamjong District Hospital. Infrastructure, facilities and manpowers are still lacking. Healthcare and education must be given top priority and I believe, the rest of development will follow suit through active participation from the community.”
Headman of Bungpa Khullen C Hopingson expressed immense gratitude to the Government of Manipur led by CM N Biren Singh and Chairman of HAC for bringing the much needed changes in the hospital.
Hopingson said, “On behalf of the people, I would like to say thank you for the upgradation of Kamjong CHC to Kamjong District Hospital, for the installation of an oxygen plant and for the inauguration of operation theatre and diagnostic centre today.”
He further said, “We have been waiting so long for this moment to happen. It is our dream come true to see this development through the initiative of MLA Leishiyo Keishing and Deputy Commissioner of Kamjong. Many people from the remote border areas have suffered enough due to poor facilities in the hospital. Today, we can operate on sick people, earlier many people have died because of the lack of facilities. Now, we don’t have to go to Ukhrul or Imphal for any operation.”
Medical Officer of Kamjong Dr Mascot Ningshen stated, “As a team, we have successfully conducted the first operation today. We would like to thank Dr Rock Soreingam (Anaesthetist) for making this operation successful. This Operation Theatre (OT) is dedicated to all the needy people of Kamjong District.”
District Surveillance Officer of Kamjong Dr. Mathotmi Hungyo lauded MLA Leishiyo Keishing, DC of Kamjong Hungyo Worshang, Director of RREA, Mathanmi Hungyo and many others who have contributed time, money and energy in making the operation theatre and lab functional.
NS Shimray, Vice President of Raizan Long, a conglomeration of 13 villages from the border areas recalled the suffering and hardship faced by the people of Kamjong.
He narrated that “in 1968 under the initiative of Late Rishang Keishing, Kamjong Block was bifurcated from Phungyar Block, thus bringing great relief to the people of border areas. In 2016, under the initiative of former MLA Victor Keishing, Kamjong Block was upgraded to Kamjong District.”
“Since the upgradation to District Level, MLA of 43-Phungyar Assembly Constituency Leishiyo Keishing has given tremendous effort in bringing changes to Kamjong District. We are grateful to all our leaders for their service and contributions,” he added.
NS Shimray also lauded the initiative and contribution made by Director of Recognise Rise and Empower Association (RREA) Mathanmi Hungyo, a young and dynamic activist for making Kamjong to take a step towards an accessible health care system.
He said, “The Government under Chief Minister N Biren Singh has done so much for the Kamjong District and we are grateful for that. Still we would like to appeal to our CM to kindly provide Anaesthetist, lab technician and other necessary equipment for Kamjong District looking at the greater interest of the people from far flung areas.”
Kamjong District Hospital urgently needs an Anaesthetist, Gynaecologist, Pediatrician, General Medicine, Lab Technician, Staff nurse, X-ray Technician, Microbiologist and OT Technician so that it can function as a complete hospital.
The newly installed oxygen plant at Kamjong District Hospital is functioning well and is providing 99.6% purity of oxygen to the patients through a pipe-fitted system installed in the room.
The programme was attended by Former Vice Chairman of ADC-Ukhrul M Isaac, former ADC Members Somimayar Awungshi, Ramshang Khapudang and Samson Khodang. Elders and leaders from neighbouring villages also attended the inauguration programme.
