A complaint against the District and Sessions Judge Imphal West was submitted to the Chief Justice of Manipur High Court on Monday pertaining to granting of anticipatory bail to Manipuri film personality Manda Leima, her husband Boyai and another one person in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) case registered earlier.
The case was registered with the Women Police Station of Imphal West and was filed by the mother of a 17-year-old minor girl.
The mother of the minor girl also petitioned the Manipur Human Rights Commission on the same case and requested the commission to monitor the progress of the probe already initiated in the case registered with the WPS/IW bearing FIR No. 29(9) 2021 WPS-IW u/s 366-A/368/354/34 IPC & 30 POCSO.
The case is related to a 2019 incident and after the reported intervention of the chief minister, the police had registered a regular First Information Report (FIR). As per the complaint lodged by the mother, four persons were named in the police complaint. However, only one person was taken into police custody while Manda and her husband and another person could not be arrested as they were granted anticipatory bail.
In her complaint to the Chief Justice of Manipur High Court, the mother stated that it is a high-profile case as Manda is a well-known film personality and alleged that her husband is a former member of a proscribed group in Manipur.
It has been reported that the accused had allegedly kidnapped the physically challenged 17-year-old girl and had her confined with the accused overnight during which she was allegedly molested.
