Chinneichoug Mate, wife of Ex ADC Chandel member Ch Ngamthang Mate, on Sunday claimed threat to life of her husband from Kuki National Army (KNA) and sought immediate appropriate necessary action from the concerned government authorities “before any untoward incident happen”.

However, KNA, which is one of the Kuki insurgent groups under Suspension of Operations (SoO), denied the allegation of Chinneichoug Mate as a cooked-up story.

In a press statement, Chinneichoug Mate alleged that Thenkhothang, Haokip @ Thangboi Haokip @ Thahpi Haokip, OC KNA Tactical HQ sent one of his KNA Cadre at her M Shimoul residence at around 1 am on May 24. However, the said cadre returned as she was along with some of her relatives, she ahhed.

She claimed that it is learnt from reliable sources that Thenkhothang Haokip had issued shoot at sight order on her husband. “Fearing for his life, we could not settle peacefully at home at M Shimoul Village near Moreh and could not come to Moreh despite many important family programmes,” she added.

“We have fled to a remote village facing untold hardships. What has my husband done against the KNA that such a horrific order had been issued against him?” she said.

Chinneichoug Mate further said Ngamthang Mate was elected on Congress Ticket for the Autonomous District Council Election from 14-Sibong Constituency of Chandel District Council. In 2017, he and some of his colleagues merged with the BJP to form a stable Council government as the Congress government could not form a stable government, she claimed.

Due to merging from Congress to BJP, Thenkhothang Haokip warned him that as the Congress government was formed in connivance with the KNO leaders, he will be awarded Capital punishment for leaving the Congress government, she alleged.

She also alleged that her husband could not stay at his home at M. Shimoul Village near Moreh for two years. He was even attacked at his quarters at National Games Village, Imphal. Thenkhothang Haokip also warned my husband not to contest the forthcoming District Council Election failing which he would be assassinated, she added.

She demanded immediate appropriate necessary action by the concerned Government authorities before any untoward incident happens in future so that they can settle peacefully at our home near Moreh.

Meanwhile, KNA issued a clarification against the allegation made by Chinneichong Mate and said that the KNO/KNA has never issued any such order as claimed by Chinneichong Mate, which is very unfortunate.

“On May 24, 2021, neither OC nor any other KNO/KNA cadres were sent to M.Shimoul Village for any reason. This is a cooked up story, it said.

In a statement issued by Town Commander KNO/KNA Tactical HQ Nelson Kuki,  KNA said, the family of Chinneichong Mate originally resides at T.Khonomjang about 15 kms from Moreh and seldom settled at M. Shimoul.

The outfit said that it is good on the part of Chinneichong Mate and family to go further into her allegations and clear hersel to the very facts and learn to live peacefully like other colleagues of ADC Members. Lastly if she could provide any proof on the above allegations, the organisation is ready to give any befitting actions, it added.

“And if no such proof is made it will be construed as a want of mercy to the government for providing security escort or for any other related favour from the government,” it said.
