The pandemic has hit hard on everyone including the hundreds of mason from Ukhrul. Their hardships compounded due to continuous closure of many activities. With the unlocking and other list of activities permitted in the state, the workers engaged in construction of buildings are slowly resuming their activities.
The A-Z Construction, Hamleikhong, Ukhrul in association with Eco Green Private Limited from Guwahati organised one-day “Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) Block Skill Training Programme at the training hall of Ukhrul Forest Division on Sunday.
Team from Eco Green Private Limited namely, Bobby (Manipur Sales Manager), Sanatomba (Sales Executive), Brandny (Technical Staff) and Suresh (Marketing Manager) were the resource persons of the training programme.
The team elaborated on the history and products of AAC blocks. Autoclaved Aerated Conclave (AAC) is a lightweight, precast building material that simultaneously provides structures, insulation, and fire and mold resistance. AAC products include blocks, wall panels, floor and roof panels, cladding panels and lintels. The team also imparted on the step wise making of AAC blocks, such as dosing and mixing of fly ash with lime, casting and rising of the mixture, tilting mould cakes with the tilt manipulator, horizontal and cross-cutting, milling and block tilting etc.

Compared to conventional clay bricks, AAC has low water penetration, better resistance and adaptability. He further added that “use of AAC enables soil conservation, reduces pollution, optimises logistic cost and effectively increases carpet area. Unlike red brick manufacturing, it does not require fertile clay; it thus helps in conserving soil and safeguarding the environment.”
Around 60 masons from locals and migrant labourers participated in the AAC block skill training programme. The participants were given tiffin, hammer and other building materials. The organisers also provided dinner for the participants.
This is not the first time, the A-Z Construction has organised such a programme for the mason. Earlier, such training has been organised to impart ideas and knowledge on the use of materials and the quality of workmanship for overall durability.
A-Z Construction, Ukhrul is focusing especially on the construction workers in Ukhrul who are resuming work after a long-dormant period due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In recent years, there is a noticeable increase in the number of local construction workers. However, the Ukhrul market is still being dominated by migrant workers.
