60-hour night curfew rolls on along Nagaland-Assam border

Movement of any person(s), group of persons or any vehicular traffic is prohibited during the night curfew. However, magistrates, army personnel, CRPF, and police on duty are exempted from the purview of the prohibitory order.

60 hours of night curfew starting 6 pm to 6 am within the 5 km belt under Sivasagar, Assam, bordering Nagaland has furtehr been reinforced by Sivasagar district administration. The 60 days night curfew has been in force since August 6 as a precautionary measure to prevent any “anti-social elements, extremist or unlawful activities” within the Nagaland-Assam border.

Movement of any person(s), group of persons or any vehicular traffic is prohibited during the night curfew. However, magistrates, army personnel, CRPF, and police on duty are exempted from the purview of the prohibitory order.

When contacted, a source from Mokokchung police told TFM that curfews are usually enforced when there is an apprehension with regard to law and order problems. “The sudden decision for such imposition is not a new thing as the Assam counterpart usually impose this on and off”, said the source.

Meanwhile, the source has also informed that the situation in the Nagaland-Assam border at the moment is normal with continuation of normal business activities. Though the situation in the said area has been under control due to the intervention of the district administration (s) from both the sides, travellers traversing through the area have been asked to be cautious.
