Zou Women Human Rights Organisation, Kuki Students’ Organisation condemn gang rape of minor

The Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Churachandpur and the Zou Women Human Rights Organisation (ZOWHRO), Churachandpur condemns in the strongest term the alleged gang rape/sexual assault on a 12-year-old minor girl at place near Bishnupur District.

The horrifying incident took place after the minor from a village bordering Churachandpur and Bishnupur district was abducted using an SUV around 4 pm on November 25, 2021. She was allegedly blinded folded and gang raped. The girl was threatened that if the incident of rape was disclosed to anyone, she might also face what her mother had gone through in 2016. The girl’s mother too was killed after she was allegedly gang raped and was yet to get justice, ZOWHRO said in a statement.

The Bishnupur Police, Childline Bishnupur & Churachandpur, Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Bishnupur rescued her on November 27, 2021 at the residence of Resongam Kom who also one of the culprits.

Viveshan Singh and Resongam Kom have been arrested and kept in judicial custody vide FIR No. 24(11) 2021 WPS-BPR U/S 365 IPC & 6 POSCO Act. However, the remaining rapists are still at large till today. We demand justice as soon as possible not only for her but also for her late mother, who faced unnatural death after she was raped in 2016, ZOWHRO added.

“The ZOWHRO will not remain a silent spectator if the Government fails to take prompt and strict action against the perpetrators without delay,” it added.

On the other hand, KSO wondered why Section 161 in The Code Of Criminal Procedure has not been taken so far..

“The incident of a school-going girl being raped repeatedly for three (3) days by a group of 4-7 youngsters is a heinous crime; utterly unimaginable to accept the existence of barbarian in this contemporary world of civilization. It evokes fear and insecurity and an unpleasant state of mental uneasiness on how safe our daughters and girl-child of our state are,” KSO said in a statement.

KSO also asserted that such acts violating women and child rights in particular and human rights in general must be condemned by all. The steps taken by Zou Women Human Rights Commission. Meena Chothe, a women human rights activist has also lauded the Zou women’s group in this regard and said that she will support them in whatever way possible and necessary, said the press note.

Noting that the impunity enjoyed by rapists who have been rarely punished as one of the major factors for frequent atrocities against women and children in the state, KSO urged the law enforcing agencies to strictly investigate the case and re-arrest Viveshan Singh and Resongam Kom and book all the other perpetrators involved in the heinous crime under relevant section of the provision of the law and award befitting punishment without delay. All those involved in such activities should not be allowed to go free, KSO said.

“The KSO/CCPur will not remain a silent spectator if the Government fails to take prompt and strict action against the perpetrators without delay,” it added.
