Y Erabot sworn-in as MLA of 15-Wangkhei Assembly Constituency

Yumkham Erabot on Wednesday was officially sworn-in as the member of 15-Wangkhei Assembly Constituency in the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly. Speaker Y Khemchand administered the oath at the Conference Hall of the Annexe Building, Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat, Imphal. 

Speaking to media persons after the ceremony, MLA Erabot stated that he would focus the remaining months of his term on the welfare of the people of Wangkhei AC. 

Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh, speaking at the occasion, said that it is fortunate for the BJP that someone who had originally contested on the party’s ticket is being sworn-in as an MLA. 

Stating that justice delayed is justice denied, CM Biren maintained that it would have been better if the Judgement had come earlier. 

Maintaining that Erabot is an asset as he is a well experienced politician, the chief minister exuded confidence that the remaining term of his government will go smoothly and also the true meaning of democracy will be imparted in the Assembly. 

In his speech, speaker Khemchand stressed that “we are all under the rule of law”. 

On April 15, the Manipur High Court declared that Okram Henry Singh’s election as member of 15-Wangkhei Assembly Constituency in the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly as “null and void”.

In the judgment following an election petition, a single bench of Justice MV Muralidaran declared that petitioner Yumkham Erabot Singh is duly elected as a member of 15-Wangkhei Assembly Constituency.

In his election petition, Erabot had alleged that Henry failed to disclose the details of Henry’s criminal pending case, his educational qualification and name of spouse and his dependents.
