Shyamjai received 173 votes and defeated his lone rival Bijoy Kakchingtabam by 25 votes. Bijoy got 148 votes.

Senior journalist and Kangleipaki Meira chief editor Wangkhemcha Shyamjai was elected as new president of All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) on Saturday.

Election for selecting AMWJU president and eight standing committee members for the years 2021-23 was conducted at Press Club Imphal. In the election that began on 8 am and concluded at 2 pm, 326 AMWJU members cast their votes, out of which five votes were declared invalid.

Shyamjai received 173 votes and defeated his lone rival Bijoy Kakchingtabam of Poknapham Daily by 25 votes. Bijoy got 148 votes.

Members of the Standing Committee of AMWJU declared elected were Sangai Express’ A Jiten (183 votes), Poknafam’s L Arish ( 176 votes), Impact TV’s Achom Binod (175 votes), Eikhoigi Panthung’s L Sanjitkumar @Bhakta (161 votes), Liklam’s Laishram Pritam (157 votes), ISTV’s Khwairakpam Naoba (154 votes), Morning Bell’s Priyo Achom (151votes) and Kangla Pao’s Ayekpam Birjit (150 votes).
