UNLF condoles demise of ‘Yawolloi’ Ngangom Binod

The proscribed armed outfit United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and its armed wing Manipur People’s Army (MPA) condoled the demise of the group’s senior member ‘Yawolloi’ Ngangom Binod due to an illness on February 21, 2022, according the highest “revolutionary salute”.

According to condolence message issued by the ‘Department of Publicity’ of the UNLF, ‘Yawolloi’ Binod was born on January 16, 1943 to Ngangom Ibohal and Ngangom ongbi Ibecha Leima at Haobam Marak, Imphal, as their second child. After passing the metric exam in 1966 from Imphal Night High school at Johnstone High School, he married the late Mutum Ningol Tampakleima on May 6, 1975.

Although Yawolloi Binod joined the UNLF in 1968, as part of the crackdown against the movement to “regain independence” lost after Manipur was “annexed” in 1949, he was arrested in 1969 and spent some time in jail. He tirelessly worked for the organisation of the party and recruited several youths, stated the statement by ‘Deputy Secy. of Publicity’, M. Sak-hen.

The statement further said that Binod also contributed towards the UNLF’s goal for a self-sufficient Manipur in terms of food. Apart from being a member of the ‘Advisory Committee’ of the outfit, he sternly believed in peaceful coexistence amongst the different communities of Manipur and common prosperity, it added.

UNLF and its armed wing MPA also shared the grief of the family, relatives and his friends, and prayed for peaceful resting in the bosom of the ‘motherland’.
