Ukhrul: Bomb explodes at Phungreitang

The sound of a powerful explosion reverberated in Ukhrul Town on Saturday night at around 8:25 pm. However, there were no reports of any casualties. A team led by the apex body, Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) consisting of all other CSOs visited the site of  “unfortunate bomb blast” at District Forest Office, Ukhrul. We unequivocally condemn this kind of inhumane and violent act of creating fear psychosis and a threat to live and peace of citizens. We appeal to all to desist from repeating such incidents in the future.

The peaceful town of Ukhrul was once again rocked by a powerful bomb explosion on Saturday night at around 8:25 pm.
In the aftermath of the blast

Ukhrul Police informed that the explosion took place inside the premise of Forest Office at Phungreitang, in the heart of Ukhrul Town.

The impact of the explosion
The explosion was likely to endanger life or cause damage to public property. Accordingly, an FIR (No. 04(02)2022/UKL-PS Under Section 3 Explosive Substance Act/4 PDPP and 34 IPC) has been lodged by the Police.  The security observer and expenditure observer related to election 2022 are presently stationed at the guest house of Ukhrul District Forest Office.
No one has been identified or apprehended and no one has claimed responsibility for the explosion till the filing of this report.
Sources informed that the explosion took place near a waste bin kept at the verandah of the caretaker’s quarter. It broke the window panes of the quarters of the caretaker and DFO. Cracks on the wall of DFO’s quarter are also reported.
