Two Rajasthani youths nabbed in fake currency racket

On preliminarily interrogation, the accused disclosed that they were doing business under the command of one Ram Avtar of Rajasthan now staying at Kolkata of depositing fake currency notes to Hundi Store and collecting the genuine one from other branches

Two Rajasthani youths have been arrested for their alleged role in depositing fake currency notes to Hundi Store and collecting the genuine one from other branches. An Imphal West court Wednesday sent them to 10-day police remand till 22 April 2022.

The arrested were identified as Ram Prasad Sharma (24), S/o Swan Rao Sharma of Samadsar, Sri Dungargarh, Rajasthan and Vinod Sharma (24), S/o Hanraj Sharma of Surpura Bikaneer District, Rajasthan.

The family members are informed about their arrest.

According to the police, the accused were arrested following a complaint lodged by Sunil Sharma who runs Sonu Clothes Shop at Alu Galli in Thangal Bazar. On 11 April 2022 at around 3.00 pm, the accused came to Sunil Sharma’s Sonu Clothes Shop at Alu Galli, Thangal Bazar and demanded to give Rs.10,00,000/- which is to be deposited by one Ramavatar of Bara Bazar, Kolkata for Hundi Money Transaction.

When Sunil Sharma denied giving them the money, an intense argument broke out amongst them. They tried to overpower him and in that he started shouting for help. The accused managed to flee the spot taking the advantage of the crowd present in the bazar, said the police.

In a hurry, they left behind a handbag and some fake notes of Rs.500, they added.

On preliminary interrogation, they disclosed that they were doing business under the command of one Ram Avtar of Rajasthan now staying at Kolkata of depositing fake currency notes to Hundi Store and collecting the genuine one from other branches. They have been doing all this since 2021 under Ram Avtar in different parts of the Country.

They told the police that Ram Avtar managed all their travelling charges and after completion of a particular task, they get Rs.50,000/- to Rs.1,00,000/- from Ram Avtar. Since, 2021 they have performed many successful tasks in different parts of the Country specially in the North -Eastern States with Ram Avtar.

Depositing of fake currency notes were also done by Ram Avtar and their job is to collect the genuine notes from different branches of Hundi Stores exchanging the fake notes to genuine notes, said the police. As part of the business, they came to Imphal on 09/04/2022 to collect Hundi Money of Rs.10,00,000/- only from the complainant as instructed by Ram Avtar, they added.
