Training of Community Volunteers For Disaster Response held

Inaugural session of the 12 days training programne for 50 selected volunteers of Ukhrul District begin on Thursday under up-scaling AAPDA Mitra Scheme at DRDA Hall, Mini Secretariat Complex, Ukhrul. The programne will wind up on 21 September 2022.

Implemented by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in partnership with Department of Relief and Disaster Management, State Disaster Management Authority, Government of Manipur, the 12 days training of community volunteers for disaster response begins today at Ukhrul Headquarters.

Attending the inaugural session, Additional Chief Secretary, (R&DM), Manipur, M.H. Khan stated that “training will be given on landslide, flood, fire and earthquake. I want the participants to be very serious and attentive. Because it concerned about saving lives as the community volunteer will be the first responder of any disaster that occur in Ukhrul District.”

M.H. Khan informed that “kits will be given at the end of the training and demonstration will be carried out in open space. He advised the trainers to induct local officials so as to translate the teaching in the local dialect for .ore understanding.

Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, Krishna Kumar stated that “Ukhrul would have a control room constituting of various departments for coordination and immediate response. The first contact to reach the place is the community volunteers. Therefore, one should be well equipt, trained and prepared to ensure safety for everyone.”

“Roughly 200 volunteers from each district will be selected for imparting training. Today 50 volunteers were selected to attend the inaugural session” stated Chunglenmang Kipgen, ADC/ADM of Ukhrul.

Director (R&DM), Manipur, K. G. Daigong informed that “Ukhrul is the first hill District to organised such training programme related to disaster management.” He also elaborated on the AAPDA Mitra Scheme.

Deputy Commandant, NDRF, Maniour Unit, P. Nupajao Singh also attended the inaugural session. 50 community volunteers comprising of 20 from NCC Ukhrul Higher Secondary School, 20 NSS 20 from Ukhrul Higher Secondary School and 10 from NYK, Ukhrul attended the inaugural session. Guidebook and other materials were distributed to the participants.
