Tension prevails in Nagaland-Assam border following death of three persons in road mishap

Nagaland government stated that in view of the “unfortunate accident” involving Mokokchung bound Sumo taxi from Dimapur that has caused the death of three persons, the situations in the two states have been tensed.

A palpable tension prevailed in Nagaland-Assam border areas on Monday after three members of a family succumbed to injuries following a road mishap. The three were travelling on a two wheeler (Scooty) and had a head on collision with a taxi (Tata Sumo) at Dhodar Ali, under Mariani, Assam.

According to source, the taxi (NL02 T 2114) was on its way to Mokokchung from Dimapur when it met the tragic accident in which a mother, her daughter and son-in-law died on the spot.

Sources said that on hearing the news of the road mishap, local residents from Mariani, Assam, blocked the road by staging a protest demonstration.

Nagaland Government issues Travel Advisory to Commuters

Following the incident, the Nagaland government through the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Mangkolemba, Mokokchung, Nagaland, Dharam Raj, in an communiqué on Monday stated that in view of the “unfortunate accident” involving Mokokchung bound Sumo taxi from Dimapur at Dhodar Ali, between Mariani, and Golaghat, Assam, causing death to three persons, the situations in the two states have been marred by tension.

In this regard, Dharam Raj has asked all the Nagaland bound travellers via Assam to avoid taking the same route until the prevailing situation is under control and tension fades. He later informed all the Mokokchung bound travellers to take the Golaghat-Merapani-Champang-Sonowal route to avoid unnecessary harassment in Mariani, Assam.
