A ‘technical error’ in a daily report of confirmed cases of COVID-19 and the consequent funeral of a man has created panic amongst the residents of a locality as they have raised questions about the management of both technical as well as data collection of covid positive cases in Manipur.

One Gurumayum Ramananda of Uripok Tourangbam Leikai was admitted to Raj Medicity, a private hospital, at around 5:00 am on July 23 due to an illness. As per the protocol, he was tested for COVID-19 on Truenat, according to a release by the Uripok Tourangbam Leikai Welfare Organisation.

Unfortunately, he died shortly. At around 8:00 am, the test result for COVID-19 turned out negative. Accordingly, family members, locals and members of the local club performed the last rites in his locality.

But his name was figured in the list of confirmed cases issued by the state government on the evening of July 24. This has created panic amongst the locality, said the welfare organisation.

When contacted, the authority of Raj Medicity maintained that there was a technical error, the daily report was sent wrongly.

The organisation has raised suspicion of ‘mismanagement’ in handling the COVID-19 pandemic in the state. It urged the concerned authorities of the state government to be careful while managing the pandemic.
