Congress MLA Khumukcham Joykisan on Friday took a jibe at the Manipur government stating that ignoring the suggestions put up by opposition led to rising number of positive cases and deaths due to COVID-19. The government should stop treating everyone who gives suggestions on COVID management as coming from the opposition and ignoring them, he suggested.

Speaking to media persons, MLA Joykisan maintained that the opposition has suggested in the larger interest of the public and not in personal interest. He contended that had the state government listened to the suggestions put up by the opposition and public, the COVID situations in the state might not have been this worse.

“Let the opposition parties and state government work in tandem to fight the dreaded virus,” he appealed.

Maintaining that the state government should provide the food supply of those in containment zones and COVID care centers, Joykisan contended that when they are left to fend for themselves, the people will automatically come out to earn their living.

Stating that as an MLA of Thangmeiband AC, he is providing essential items to the constituents like other MLAs, Joykisan urged the state government to either provide for the whole state or make provisions to let the MLA manage the COVID care centers and containment zones.

The Congress MLA also alleged that there is lack of transparency in the vaccination drive in the state. Youths under 45 years of age are facing problems while getting their certificates after getting inoculated. This has become a problem while entering hostels amongst others, Joykisan said while urging the concerned authorities to sort it out.

MLA Joykisan also expressed dissatisfaction with the manner in which the committees for vaccination in AC wise are being operated. The local MLA heads the committee which includes SDO, SDC, local volunteer, club, etc. But those in administration of the committee are taking decisions on the date, time, place of vaccination without any consultations, and it is unfortunate, he added.

The concerned MLA should take the responsibility if anyone is left out because of the manner in which the officials are working. If some officials were to act in this manner then there was no point in constituting the committee, Joykisan said and urged the concerned district administration to work together in this regard. He also drew the attention of the chief minister in this regard.

The Congress MLA also sounded alarm about the rising traffic in Imphal during the COVID curfew.
