Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA), an armed outfit formed by former members of the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), celebrated its first rising day on Saturday. Functions were held at its Central Headquarters, Tactical Headquarters, and units, including Militia Unit and Civil Unit to mark the day in simple manner by maintaining Covid-19 protocol. The message of the outfit’s Chairman was read out at all the functions, said a statement issued by outfit’s Publicity Secretary M.C.Yaiphabi.

The statement said chairman Toijam Ibochouba and general secretary K Korou, graced the main event at Central Head Quarters as special guests while outfit’s Military Affairs Secretary Colonel Chingyang and its armed wing Peoples Revolutionary Army (PRA)’s Chief of Army Staff Lt Colonel Angou Khuman were guest of honour and president of the function held at Tactical Head Quarter respectively.

Addressing the function at Central HQ, chairman Toijam Ibochouba emphasised on the importance of sensitising the masses about revolutionary ideology in the present situation to take forward the movement. No movement will sustain long without revolutionary ideology, he said. It has been clear from revolutionary movements in WESEA and Kangleipak/Manipur since India forcibly merged the region, he added.

Stressing on the need for revolutionary groups to go hand in hand with the masses, he said the severance of this relationship will hamper movement and make it impossible to achieve its goal.

The chairman also said that while hiding from the government, the revolutionary leaders need to stay among people who are supporting the movement and perform revolutionary activities there. It will be possible only when the masses believe in revolutionary ideology and policy, he added.

Maintaining that just an armed movement won’t achieve independence, he said the movement is not to arm all the masses. Only the weapon, the masses and armed groups have to grip together, is revolutionary ideology, he added.

What is lacking in the half-century old movement is not weapons but ideology, said the chairman. The reason for failure to make progress in the movement and bring all groups under one umbrella despite once having thousands of cadres and hordes of weapons is the absence of revolutionary ideology agreed with the masses, he added, emphasizing on the importance of accepting this fact and reflecting together on it.

Speaking on the occasion, outfit’s general secretary K. Korou blamed the colonial government for increasing use of drug and other psychoactive substances in the state and stressed on the need for a dedicated action against the menace. If the younger generation has been pulled out of this drug yoke, it will sound death knell for the society, he said.

At the Tactical H/Q function, Military Affairs Secretary Colonel Chingyang spoke on the importance of revolutionary fighters sticking to revolutionary principles and asked them to adhere to the outfit’s ideology and reach out to the masses under it.

Outfit’s Chief of Army Staff Lt.Colonel Angou Khuman said PRA fighters must discharge their duties at appropriate time and place to conduct successful  movement.
