“I have misled myself trusting people will vote on the demand for implementation of agreed political solutions, restoration of governance and infrastructure. In most of the issues Congress has raised, appreciation was won from many elite leaders and intelligentsia. However, the economically poor multitude’s consideration was money and ruling power”, said K Therie, the former president Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee.

A day after, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has accepted his resignation as the president of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC),  K Therie has stated that he had “misled” trusting that the people will vote on the demand for implementation of agreed political solutions, restoration of governance and infrastructure. In most of the issues Congress has raised, “appreciation was won from many elite leaders and intelligentsia”. However, the economically poor multitude’s consideration was “money and ruling power”, alleged K Therie.

The former NPCC president said that he had resigned accepting the the people’s verdict. The resignation was pending due to the announcement of ULB elections. However, in view of the cancellation notice issued by State Election Commissioner on 30/03/2023, there is no reason to delay, he added.

“I have enjoyed serving the people through the platform of the Congress party for almost 8 years. I am thankful for the support and cooperation from all over the state, especially from the Congress ranks and files while not forgetting all the well-wishers. I am grateful to the media friends for they were my strength”, said the former NPCC president.

” It is more shocking to note that people protesting in the streets against the Govt. have worked hardest for the ruling Govt. they oppose. Nagaland election is not a democratic election. It is auction of votes and playing with proxy votes. I have not heard any Presiding Officer or Polling Officer stopping proxy voters”, he said.

K Therie however stated that he resigned from the duties of President but not from the duties of a Congress member. “My faith in the secular idea of India cannot be shaken. I will continue to work for the present and future generations to enjoy freedom of faith and hope. I thank Madam Sonia Gandhi and Shri Rahul Gandhi for the trust they have given me. I also thank Shri Mallikarjun Kharge Ji, President AICC for all his support”, he added.

K Therie while lauding the appointment of his successor S Supongmeren Jamir as the new president also stated that he had worked with him closely. “I know him as a down to earth leader far from ego. He has gained experience in the functioning of Congress and in Governing. He is another person tested in fire and water. He was elected to the State Assembly and thus knows victory as well as defeat. I believe he will be more affable. I wish him all the best”, said K Therie.
