Priyanka slams BJP-led government for poor management of Ima Keithel

The problems in Manipur are increasing under the BJP Government because the BJP-led coalition government doesn’t have the will to work for the betterment of the people of Manipur, said the AICC general secretary during a virtual rally.

As 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections draw near, campaigning by central Congress leaders have started gaining momentum. While Congress scion Rahul Gandhi is expected to arrive in Manipur on February 21 and 22 for campaigning, his sister and AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has addressed the people of Manipur virtually through INC Social Media platform ahead of Manipur polls.

In the virtual rally on Tuesday, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticised the BJP Government for poor management of “Ima Keithel’ during the covid 19 pandemic. “Ima Keithel’ constructed during the Congress Government has been badly managed during covid-19 pandemic which is the reason for the women vendors to face various problems, she said.

Priyanka alleged that the problems in Manipur are increasing under the BJP Government because the BJP-led coalition government doesn’t have the will to work for the betterment of the people of Manipur. One of the major goals of the Congress is to provide safe drinking water and uninterrupted power supply in Manipur, she added.

Priyanka also had one-on-one interaction with the congress workers of different constituencies across the state through virtual medium.

AICC In-Charge Manipur Bhakta Charan Das, , MPCC president N. Loken Singh, CLP Leader O. Ibobi, MPCC Working Presidents I. Hemochandra, K. Meghachandra, Former MPCC President TN Haokip and other office bearers of MPCC shared the dais of the programme at Congress Bhavan, Imphal.

While interacting with the Congress workers from CM’s Heingang Constituency regarding various issues Priyanka said that she understands very well that in CM’s own constituency poor irrigation system has made it difficult for the farmers to produce crops. She assured that Congress promises to review all the ongoing projects of irrigation and strengthen the irrigation system. She also ensured that a farmer who grows one crop becomes capable of growing two-three crops in the next five years.

Priyanka also said that strengthening the tourism sector can bring economic development in the state and generate employability amongst the youth. She criticised the BJP-led Government both at the centre and state by stating that they create division based on religion, ethnicity as it is the only way that politics progresses leading to discrimination, while the Congress party proposes politics for development, she added.

The AICC general secretary slammed the state BJP Government saying that it is a disgrace that Manipur Public Service Commission exams have not been conducted during the last five years of BJP rule. She proposed to provide an unemployment allowance to all the unemployed youth of Manipur, if Congress comes into power.

She said, “We will secure the territorial integrity of Manipur, protect the civil rights and freedom and its historical boundaries.” She also assured to promote harmony and peace in the state and do whatever to keep the people of Manipur united so that all can flourish together. The AICC general secretary also promised to provide 33 per cent reservation for women in all government jobs in the state.

Several people across the state participated in the virtual rally and around 15 lakh people have watched the rally on different social media platforms. The programme was executed by MPCC Social Media Department.
