Peren on the boil, ADC’s vehicle torched

The district magistrate issued a prohibitory order under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPc), 1973, to ensure that public peace and tranquility are maintained.

As many were boiled with rage despite the arrest four persons in connection with recent killings of three persons at Lamhainamdi, Peren, bordering Dimapur and Peren districts, the official vehicle of the ADC, Jalukie, was burned allegedly by a ‘mob’ on Thursday.

According to a source, United Zeliangrong Youth Federation (UZYF), Peren, had a meeting with all the stakeholders including the district administration to address the issue relating to the ‘Lamhainamdi’ incident and also the proposed indefinite bandh.

However, it was learnt that the officer was not in the vehicle except his official driver when the vehicle was “torched”.

When contacted, Deputy Commissioner, Peren, Sentiwapang Aier, who also visited the site of the incident told this Nagaland Special Correspondent that keeping in mind the proposed indefinite bandh called by the United Zeliangrong Youth Federation (UZYF) had taken a “violent turn” and which has become a “threat” to public “peace and tranquility”.

Meanwhile, the district magistrate passed a prohibitory order under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPc), 1973, to ensure that public peace and tranquility are maintained.

The DC said that after due consideration of the prevailing situation, in exercise of his power as the DC and DM, Peren,  Nagaland, conferred upon him under the relevant Section, promulgated the prohibitory order imposing curfew.

This include assembling of more than five (5) persons and carrying of any lethal weapons and arms in areas including Jalukie town and its adjoining areas, Kejanglwa-Jalukie Tri Junction to Mhainamtsi-Dimapur-Kohima Tri Junction, and from Samziuram Village Gate towards Jalukie town.

The DC also informed that the notification stands valid till further notice.

It may be mentioned that Nagaland government has already set up Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the alleged “killings” of three persons on March 22 by unidentified persons at Lamhainamdi, Peren, which also borders Dimapur and Peren districts, four persons have been reportedly arrested so far.
