Our govt knows the hardship faced by artistes: Minister Rajen

The minister also said that even though the previous government did not care about artists, the present government knows their hardships and is working for them.

The prize distribution ceremony of the “51st Short Play Competition for Creative Directors 2020” organised by Theatre Centre, Manipur was held on Saturday at Manipur Dramatic Union hall, Yaiskul, Imphal. 

Speaking on the occasion, Education Minister S Rajen said that even though the previous government did not care about artistes, the present government knows their hardships and is working for them. Not only the artists but Arangpham will also get the benefits of pension schemes, he added. 

Maintaining that no place can develop without theatre, the minister said that when a citizen spoke against the government he might be punished but theatre provides the place to address any wrongdoing of the government. This gives an opportunity for the government to correct itself, he added. 

Minister Rajen further stressed on the role played by theatre in bringing harmony amongst different communities. He also assured that the chief minister will be intimated about the condition of MDU hall and will be urged to renovate it. 

Works minister Th Bishwajit, who attended the function as chief guest, said that artists of the state play a key role in introducing Manipur to the world. Amongst the different artforms, since Shumang Kumhei is an important one, a performing centre for Shumang Kumhei will be constructed, he added. 

Artists make us cry and laugh through their art, but we seldom see their hardships and it is unfortunate, the minister said, and urged everyone to acknowledge and understand their plight.
