One more Manipur cop among 3 arrested in yet another drug haul case

As per the identity card of Md Taslim Ahamad, he is a constable in the CID (Security) Office of the Manipur Police. The arrested persons have been booked under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act 1985 and presently under judicial custody, Guwahati zonal unit said.

In yet another drug halt case involving Manipur police personnel within a week, three persons, including one constable in the CID (Security) Office of the Manipur Police were arrested in Guwahati on Tuesday along with 807.18 grams of heroin contained in 65 soap cases, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Guwahati zonal unit said on Thursday.

According to a statement issued by the DRI joint director, in an operation against a drug syndicate, the DRI. seized 807.18 grams of heroin contained in 65 soap cases on 05.04.2022 in Guwahati and three persons have been arrested in this connection. The value of the seized Heroin is estimated to be around Rs 5.65 crore in the international market.

The arrested individuals have been identified as 24-year-old Md. Laki Amir, 30-year-old Mohammad Raqibuddin both residents of Lilong. Manipur and 3-4-year-old Mohammed Taslim Ahamad resident of Thoubal Kiyam Litanpok, Moljing, Thoubal, Manipur.

As per the identity card of Md Taslim Ahamad, he is a constable in the CID (Security) Office of the Manipur Police. The arrested persons have been booked under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act 1985 and presently under judicial custody, the statement said.

It may be noted that a team of State police had arrested two persons including one police Constable along with 92 soap cases of brown sugar worth around Rs 7.59 crore in the international market from Tengnoupal police station checkpost on April 1 .

The two arrested persons have been identified as Constable D Letkholun Haokip (37), s/o D Dongthang Haokip of Lajangphai village Churachandpur and Ngamkhohao Haokip (22), s/o Seikholun Haokip of Songpeh village, Churachandpur.

They were travelling in a Honda City car with Manipur registration number.

Reportedly, Churachandpur police station has been intimated about the arrest of Constable D Letkholun Haokip who is posted at Churachandpur Police Reserve Line.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh who lauded the police personnel involved in the drug haul, in a Facebook post, wrote, “Whoever they may be, anybody involved in drug business will not be tolerated, ” adding that it was very unfortunate to find police personnel involved in drug trafficking.

After he assumed office as the Chief Minister of the state for the second consecutive term, N Biren Singh declared “war on drugs 2.0” while reiterating his Government’s commitment towards making Manipur a drug-free State.

The Chief Minister had also strongly warned all those involved in drug trafficking to surrender or face severe consequences as per the law of the land.
