Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) on Tuesday opposed the Parliamentary Official Language Committee’s (POLC) proposal to impose Hindi language as a component of Modern Indian language till Class 10 in the Northeast states.

The NSF noted given the plethora of indigenous groups with diverse culture, race, language and religion in North East, compulsory imposition of a particular language would only propagate disunity and misunderstanding among the peace loving citizens and indigenous people of the region.

It said that the proposal would undermine the languages of region’s ethnic groups and would invite confusions, hurdles and discomfort for the students community and the Naga people in general.

The NSF, therefore, has urged the central government to revoke the decision in order to maintain peaceful co-existence and to avoid any further misunderstandings.

NSF further stated that it would spare no efforts to safeguard the interests and sentiments of the Naga people in particular and the Northeast region in general as the entire region was against the proposed imposition.
