The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Wednesday condemned the statement made by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio at NDPP central office, Kohima on April 7.

According to the NPCC, the “immature and baseless” comments made by Rio during the election campaign cum coordination meet held and he asserting that NDPP led PDA government would never “compromise” with the faith and identity of the Nagas.

Condemning the very particular statement made by Rio, NPCC in a press statement issued by its communications department, stated that he could conveniently turn “blind” to the “realms” of data from the independent national as well as the international rights organizations documenting BJP’s discriminatory treatment against the minorities of India, including the Christian community.

NPCC went on to add that unfortunately untold Indians who are at the receiving end of this injustice ca not afford that luxury and that Rio continues to be one of the most ardent apologists of the BJP in the face of such evidence backed universal censorship, speaking volumes about the weight of his assurance when he states that he’ll never compromise the faith and identity of the Nagas.

Also pointing out that the kind of language that “he” uses to belittle the candidature of his opponents is unbecoming of the high office that he holds, NPCC also supplemented that with such eventful and prolific profile under his belt, he of all the people should know that a “weak or strong” candidature will be decided on the counting day, by the electorate but not by the subjective views of an individual.

Respecting the will of the voters, and having high hope that the people of Nagaland will give a clear and strong mandate in favour of the Congress party, the NPCC also touched on the allegations of misuse of Article 356 by past Congress governments which looked like a “ traffic offence” in comparison to the wholesale and brazen misuse of state apparatus happening at present under the Narendra Modi’s government.

The issue cropped up after a statement made when the Nagaland chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, dismissed Congress’s allegation that the BJP party was “anti-Christian” and “anti-minority”.

On the same, Rio has also said that it was all rhetoric and propaganda of the Congress to exploit people.
