United Committee Manipur (UCM) on Wednesday demanded probe and identification of the druglord and the owner of the house at Moreh, from which a combined team of Assam Rifles and Moreh Police Commando had seized drugs worth Rs 500 crore on December 6, within ten days.

UCM, in a release on Wednesday, maintained that it was a major success for law enforcement agency and intelligence, while lauding the superintendent of police of Tengnoupal, the police team and the all the communities of the border town Moreh who played an important role in the seizure.

Stating that this was not the first time huge quantities of drugs had been seized in Manipur, UCM maintained that the main concern is the inability to nab the owner of these drugs.

As huge amount of money, in terms of crores, are involved in the drug business, only the wealthy having connections with the higher echelon of society can conduct such business. In fact, this might be one of the reasons why the real druglords have not been able to punish as per the law, it added.

UCM also urged the Manipur government to sincerely work towards preventing Manipur from becoming a safe haven for drug business.

On December 6, a combined team of Moreh Battalion 43 Assam Rifles and Moreh Police Commando seized a large consignment of contraband drugs from a house near Sunrise Ground, Moreh Ward Number 2. The spot is said to be close to the India-Myanmar border, as per reports.
