NH 202 expansion: Ukhrul villagers upset at ‘error’ in land categorization

Villagers of Langdang, Shirui and Marangphung have welcomed the ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ plan for expansion of NH 202. However, they have expressed displeasure at irregularities in categorization of land to be acquired.

Speaking to this correspondent, Headman of Marangphung SA Ramnaganing stated that “the whole area of land to be acquired for expansion of NH 202 under Marangphung jurisdiction has been categorized as “dispute area” as per the notification, which is not true and uncalled for. In principle, we fully welcome the development but, we are not happy with the tag or categorization of our land as dispute land.”

Headman of Shirui (CK), Khavangpam Wungsek stated that the villagers welcome the expansion and development of NH 202 and they have no objection to the use of their land for the aforesaid purpose. However, there are few land owners whose names are not in the list.

It may be noted that the Deputy Commisisoner of Ukhrul who is the Competent Authority for Land Acquisition in its notification dated August 4, 2021 has invited individuals for inspection and objections for the use of lands for building maintenance, management and operation of NH – 202 in the stretch of land from km 7.1 to km 73.136 and km 73.136 to km 99.01 respectively in the district of Ukhrul, in the state of MANIPUR. Anyone interested can do so within 21 days from the date of publication of these notifications, it said.

The notification stated that “In pursuance of notification vide No. S.O. 2676 (E) and S.O. 278 (E) dated July 2, 2021 issued by the ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the Central Government declares its intention to acquire such land for NH-202 expansion in the stretch in Ukhrul.

The land to be acquired includes areas in Hungpung, Choithar,  Lungshang, Langdang, Shirui, Litan Sareikhong and Marangphung. Any complaint or objection may be submitted to Deputy Commissioner on or before August 25, 2021.
