With many objecting to appointment of a “non-naga” to hold the position of Gaon Bura (GB), which was a debate going on for the last many months, the same person, Abdul Kayum Talukdar, GB of New Market, Dimapur, was on Friday night shot at in Signal Bosti area, Dimapur, by unidentified gunmen. He succumbed to his injuries in Faith Hospital, Dimapur.
Talukdar received bullet injuries on his chest and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
According to a source, immediately after the incident, the security forces including the personnel of the Dimapur police had launched search operations within the vicinity of the incident but could not find any leads.
Meanwhile, when contacted, an officer from the Dimapur police informed this correspondent that the details leading to the “killing” would be made known only on Saturday after a thorough investigation.
NMWC Ward-19 condemns ‘murder’ of its member
New Market Welfare Committee (NMWC) Ward-19 has vehemently condemned the “brutal murder” of its member Abdul Kayum Talukdar, and who was also the GB of New Market, on Friday night at Signal Night Bazaar, Dimapur.
Many organizations, including the GB, New Market Dimapur, Khekishe Aye, New Market Business Welfare Committee (NMBWC), Mughato Sumi, and NMBCWC general secretary, Shikiho Aye, under Ward-19, stated that the kind of heinous act has not only shocked them but in a way raised concerns regarding the safety and well-being of the business community within the state.
They voiced that the savage and inhumane nature of the crime has left them in a state of profound distress and horror, resonating deeply within the community.
Through the letter, the signatories also stated that they want to unequivocally state that such barbaric actions are intolerable and must be met with swift and decisive justice.
In this regard, it urgently called upon the law-enforcing agencies to
thoroughly investigate the atrocity and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice without delay.
“Comprehensive measures must be implemented to protect our vulnerable community members and prevent such monstrous acts in the future”, it added while also appealing to all conscientious citizens to join in condemning the horrific act.
