After ten days of his ‘Fast Unto Death’ stir, Kakai Singsit announced on Thursday to take a momentary pause in his protest considering the impending New Year 2022 and the various appeals by the civil society organizations.

Kakai Singsit began his ‘Fast Unto Death’ protest on December 20 in quest of justice upon three of his family members who were allegedly arrested and put behind the bar for a crime, which Kakai maintained they are not involved in and even remotely connected to.

Speaking to the media, Kakai said that he was standing firm with his decision to remain strong-willed as the government is showing its rock-ribbed attitude towards my fight against the injustice meted out to innocent people.

He continued that despite the ‘Fast Unto Death’ stir since December 20, they have not received any positive response from the government nor any attempt to conciliate and no attempt from the concerned authority to resolve the injustice issue upon Hentinseh Singsit, Seigoulun Singsit and Henminlun Misao.

He also recalled that many civil society organizations, students bodies, and clubs had been voicing their protest in the form of various democratic agitation demanding the release of the innocent trio but their protest, appeal and sincere request have been thrown into the thin air by the government despite proven innocence.

“For more than two months, the innocent trio after their arrest for a crime they did not commit, for a false crime in which they are not even related, has been serving a sentence in jail for which they are not remotely connected”, Kakai added.

“Considering the stubbornness of the government, I was also adamant on the my decision and think it is best to continue the stir but the various appeals from several civil society organizations to take a momentary pause as it has largely disrupted the celebration of Christmas and dampened the festive mood made me to reconsider my decision.

“As the Fast Unto Death protest has immensely affected not only my families, but also my neighbours friends, and relatives in their Christmas celebration and keeping in mind the impending new year festival, I feel they need to be given a chance to celebrate so I have decided to take a momentary pause”, Kakai Singsit added.

However, he asserted the protest will continue after the New Year celebration is over.
