Works & YAS minister Govindas Konthoujam has informed AIFF that this is not the first time AMFA had “broken the rules” and AMFA had also allegedly misappropriated the ‘COVID Grant’ given by AIFF.

TFM Report

All India Football Federation (AIFF) has summoned officials of All Manipur Football Association (AMFA) in Delhi following the recent controversy surrounding the wrong nomination of a team to the Hero 2nd Division I League. A reliable source while giving TFM this information also said that the controversy surrounding AMFA may continue till AIFF takes a final call on the allegations of nepotism, discrimination and corruption.

This followed two official intimations forwarded to All India Football Federation (AIFF) president Kalyan Chaubey by the minister of Works and Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS), Manipur on the unfolding controversy arising out of alleged nepotism, discrimination and corruption by All Manipur Football Association (AMFA).

In the second letter forwarded to AIFF, Govindas Konthoujam, minister of works and youth affairs and sports Manipur dated January 13, 2023 stated that he was compelled to write another letter “in the interest of Sports in Manipur, considering the ‘Hue & Cry’ arising out of the wrong nomination of the team to the Hero 2nd Division I-League, I am to request you to depute a Team from AIFF to oversee their day to day administration of All Manipur Football Association.

Proposals to AIFF

The minister also put up three proposals. These proposals are:

  1. Suspend AMFA and take the day-to-day administration of AMFA by AIFF
  2. If the First proposal is not possible, constitute an interim body comprising of the representative of AIFF, AMFA & Department of YAS, Manipur to monitor the working of AMFA.
  3. To make either the Honourable Chief Minister or minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, Manipur as the president, till such a term as a new body is constituted.

The minister further said, “As the trust of all the stakeholders of football has gone dim, it is desired that the same set of Executive Council should not continue. It is also learned from reliable sources that their term is expiring in the mid of 2023.”

AMFA and COVID Grant

Govindas Konthoujam also reiterated that this is not the first time that AMFA had “broken the rules” and alleged that AMFA had misappropriated the ‘COVID Grant’ given by AIFF. AMFA also “failed to give an audited statement of accounts when called for. Moreover, the ‘COVID Grant’ that AIFF extended to AMFA is alleged to be misappropriated by them. So it is time for AIFF to intervene, considering the seriousness of the situation, a decision may kindly be taken”, said the minister.
