NEIPF stresses on addressing inter-state boundaries in Northeast; adopts Diphupar Declaration

NEIPF says it will continuously thrive for the creation of a conducive atmosphere for the indigenous peoples of the Northeast states for sharing common interest and issues.

North East Indigenous People’s’s Forum (NEIPF) has stressed on the importance of addressing inter-state boundaries in the region. This was part of the ‘Diphupar Declaration’ adopted after a two-day 2nd Annual Conference of the North East Indigenous People’s Forum hosted by Nagaland Indigenous People’s Forum at North East Zone Cultural Center, Diphupar, Chumukedima concluded on Saturday.

The NEIPF also formed a new executive body comprising of Anup Chetia as Chairman, Lima Jamir and Tage Lapung as Vice-Chairmen and N Ibungochoubi as General Secretary.

Following the deliberations from the delegates, resource persons, scholars, intellectuals and representatives of various organizations, the conference resolved to present a declaration to the people of the region.

According to a press statement, the Diphupar Declaration include:

Article 1. The North East Indigenous People’s Forum will continuously thrive for the creation of a conducive atmosphere for the indigenous peoples of the North East States for sharing common interest and issues.

Article 2. The North East Indigenous People’s Forum will make an endeavour in the pursuit of preserving indigenous traditional values and cultural practices.

Article 3. The North East Indigenous People’s Forum demands assurance for ensuring and making the indigenous people a stakeholder in every decision concerning the people and the land.

Article 4. The North East Indigenous People’s Forum draws the attention of the North East States to address the inter-state boundaries with utmost care. The Forum urges to give preference to the indigenous peoples in the settlement.
