National Pet Day observed in Manipur

Around 130 cats and dogs were given treatment and vaccinated with anti-rabies vaccine to mark the day at a programne organised by Dog Protection Society (DPS), Manipur and Veterinary And Animal Husbandry Services, Manipur.

As in other parts of the country, Dog Protection Society (DPS), Manipur and Veterinary And Animal Husbandry Services, Manipur jointly observed the National Pet Day on Sunday at Kwakeithel Moirangpurel.

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Retd Veterinary Department director H chaoba elaborated on atrocities against pets and informed that those who commit such crimes can be punished under The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

DSP president Khoirom Loyalakpa opined that pets are one of the closest animals to men. He also said that even if the authorities are not able to stop the atrocities against pets and consuming these animals as food, DSP is trying their best.

Loyalakpa, who is also an editor of a local daily, said being in the profession of media, it is clearly known how honest the authorities are working. When trying to expose it, there are “disturbances”, so have turned a blind eye, he added.
