The Working Committee (WC) of the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) has announced key leadership appointments to reinforce its pursuit of a “honourable and logical political solution” to the decades-old Indo-Naga conflict.

In a resolution issued on Friday, the WC NNPGs media cell stated that Gen (Retd) MB Neokpao Konyak, president of the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagaland/Unification (GPRN/U), has been unanimously appointed as convener of the WC NNPGs. The decision recognizes Konyak’s “unwavering commitment, sacrifice, and resolute stand” during negotiations with the Government of India (GoI), which officially invited the NNPGs for dialogue.

Ato Kilonser (prime minister) P Tikhak and Ato Kilonser Col (Retd) Isak Sumi were named working conveners to assist Konyak in collectively representing Naga interests. The trio will work in “close coordination” with all NNPG affiliates on matters linked to the WC and the broader Indo-Naga issue. Their appointments, effective for three years pending review, aim to streamline efforts toward a breakthrough. Ghukiho T Zhimomi, cabinet kilonser (minister), will continue as member secretary of the WC NNPGs until further orders.

The restructuring underscores the NNPGs’ resolve to advance dialogue with New Delhi, which began in 2017 after the group joined peace talks alongside the NSCN (I-M). The WC NNPGs emphasized its commitment to unity among Naga factions to achieve lasting resolution.
