Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Monday reiterated that the “resolution” of the protracted Naga political issues remain the top priority of his UDA government.
Rio reminded that the state government had exhibited “unity” and formed an “opposition less” government so as to work towards that goal.
The chief minister was making his concluding remarks on the motion of thanks to the governor’s address in the Nagaland State Assembly (NLA).
Rio said a committee headed by the Commissioner of Nagaland has been constituted to look into the desire of the people to create new districts for their tribes.

On the issue of oil and natural gas exploration in the Assam-Nagaland border, Neiphiu Rio said that the State would take measures to seek cooperation from the Centre and government of Assam.
With regard to the ULB election, the Nagaland Chief Minister informed that it would be conducted as per the resolution passed during the consultative meeting held on March 9 this year while adding that that the elections would be held as per the 74th amendment of the Constitution of India.
On the foothill area stretching from Nagaland to Manipur border, Rio said its construction has been delayed due to “border issues” and also financial constraints.
2nd day of budget session of NLA resumes
The second day of the ongoing budget session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) resumed on Monday.
The second day’s budget session started with the question hour where NPF MLA, Kuzholuzo Nienu, expressed concern on Kohima Bye-pass Road, Revenue granted through Central GST, State GST and Integrated GST and Works taken up under Phek Town from 2020 till date.
Commissioner and Secretary NLA, P J Antony presented the assent of the Nagaland Governor to three bills passed in the previous session of the Assembly on Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (Fourth Amendment) Bill, 2021; The Nagaland Goods & Services Tax (Fifth Amendment) Bill, 2021 and the Nagaland Lokayukta (Second Amendment) Bill, 2021.
Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, laid The Nagaland Motor Accident Claims Tribunal Rules, 2022, and Rules of Micro & Small Enterprises Facilitation Council under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006).
Chairman of the Committee on Subordinate Legislation (2021-2022), Dr Chotisuh Sazo, presented a copy each of the Seventy-Sixth Report on the Nagaland Building and other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2010 and Seventy-Seventh Report on the Tribal Affairs Department Service Rules, 2020.
Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, K T Sukhalu laid the 126th and 127th Report of the Committee on Public Accounts Action Taken by the Government on the Observations and Recommendations contained in the 120th and 122nd report of the Committee on the CAG Report of India for the year 2013-2014.
Rio also introduced the Nagaland Village and Tribal Councils (Fifth Amendment) Bill 2022, while Minister for Soil & Water Conservation, and Geology & Mining, V Kashiho, introduced the Nagaland Groundwater (Regulation & Control of Development and Management) Bill, 2020.
NLA Speaker, Sharingain Longkumer, announced that the consideration and passing of the bills would be taken upon on March 22.
Later, the members took up discussion on the motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Address.
Meanwhile, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who also holds the finance portfolio, will present the State Budget 2022-2023 in the Assembly on March 22.
