Setting an objective of conducting a peaceful, transparent, free and fair Manipur University of Students’ Union (MUSU) election 2020-21, the Monitoring Committee of MUSU Election 2020-21 Session has been constituted. The committee has drafted a 14 point “Code of Conduct” and has come into effect from 6 pm on Saturday.
Speaking to media persons on Saturday at the Dean of Student Welfare, Manipur University, the convenor of the committee Thokchom Suresh informed that the committee was constituted on January 11 by the representatives of major students’ bodies of the state.
Suresh also informed that the candidates for the key posts and class representatives should strictly adhere to the Code of Conduct.
According to the Code of Conduct, any sort of gatherings like tea-party, feasts, study tours, picnic, etc in relation to the election has been banned. Although open debate, symposium, discussion, etc are permitted to choose the deserving candidates.
No students or individuals who are not studying in the varsity would be allowed to enter the campus for election-related activities.
Posters of the candidates (A3 size) will be allowed only on the department’s board or the designated place decided by the committee.
Election campaigns will be allowed inside the campus from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm.
The committee has also banned liquor or any intoxicants to be used during the election campaign. The distribution of money or any form of gifts have also been banned.
House-campaign, picking up of voters from their homes on election day, election-camps, etc have also been banned.
Suresh further asserted that if any candidate is found not adhering to this Code of Conduct, he or she will be forced to withdraw the nomination and his or her candidateship as a penalty. He appealed to the students of the varsity and MU authority to co-operate with the committee.
