IGP (CID) Vikram M Khalate on Wednesday said that drugs worth crores of rupees were seized in Nagaland within a span of few months.

Briefing media persons at the Rhododendron Hall, Police Complex, Chumoukedima, Khalate said that Nagaland police have put in “multiple systems” in place by taking many different steps to contain the menace of the narcotic drugs and related crime (s).

“We have put multiple systems in place which are helping the team to analyse and operate in real time.

“Nagaland is being utilized as a transit route for illicit drugs. To combat this, we have focused on identifying both the forward and backward linkages. The forward linkages reveal the intended destinations of these drugs, while the backward linkages help us trace their origins,” he explained.

He acknowledged that a significant portion of the drugs seized in Nagaland originate from Manipur, with connections to main suppliers based in Manipur, Assam, or other states, including Karnataka and Punjab.

The transit route for banned narcotics stretches from Myanmar to Manipur and then to Nagaland, according to the IGP (CID). These narcotics, originating from Myanmar, are partly intended for local sale in Nagaland, while the remaining quantity is smuggled beyond the state borders ¹.

The department has been receiving credible information, thanks to public cooperation, which has helped them uncover the complex network of drug trafficking in the region, he said.

He also mentioned that the “peddlers” uses sophisticated concealment making it difficult to identify those involved for which the IG (CID) underscored that it is every individual’s collective responsibility (s) to be under one umbrella in order to share the inputs.

Also sharing his views, commissioner of police, Dimapur, K Sophie, stated that seizures of the banned narcotics made was not by “chance or counter” but appropriately supported by its “intelligence and sources” as the office has been pursuing “war against drug” since the last two years and had developed its own sources and for which he also appealed to the public to report any suspicious activity by assuring that the Commissionerate office, Dimapur, would never let know the identity of the informer (s).

The modus operandi across the border from Myanmar, he said, it goes to Manipur and comes to Nagaland with Nagaland becoming a transit point and not the destination In the last six months what Dimapur police have seen was that they don’t dare to bring it inside Nagaland so people who are consuming the drugs are going to the bordering areas to procure for their consumption.

Due to the efforts of the agencies and not just the police, the Dimapur police are trying its best to do away with this menace.

Later, the CP disclosed that most of the seizures were made from private vehicles hidden in oil compartment which is very difficult for the uniformed personnel to detect but due to the efforts of the uniformed team, it could make the achievements

Most of the seizures are using private vehicles and hidden in holes compartment and it is very difficult to detect. But due to the efforts of our team we could make achievements with continued efforts.
