MLA Nemcha leads advocacy on COVID-19 vaccination at Ngahmun, urges all to get jab

Kangpokpi AC MLA Nemcha Kipgen apart from shielding frontline workers, structural response to the second wave in her constituency, is now leading advocacy on COVID-19 vaccination in Kangpokpi Assembly Constituency.

The MLA organised advocacy (a seminar cum awareness) on COVID-19 vaccination at her residential village Ngahmun in collaboration with the COVID Task Force Tujang area where more than 40 village chiefs attended the program on Sunday.

Earlier, the local MLA also visited the Covishield vaccination held at Paspati village in Kholjang area and encouraged the people to disseminate accurate information and messages in their respective villages about the vaccination.

During the advocacy seminar and awareness on COVID-19 vaccination, MLA Nemcha Kipgen exhorted that unless we are vaccinated willingly, we will not be able to overcome the pandemic COVID-19.

She said that as per the expert opinion, the third wave is likely to hit us from September and the only way to protect ourselves and our family is to get vaccinated because according to a recent finding even a single dose of COVID-19 vaccines have shown 92 per cent efficacy in protecting against death while with two doses it increased to 98 per cent.

She continued that she also got the first dose and will get the second dose on Monday and added she was fine and good, “So, don’t believe in rumors and fake viral information and get vaccinated at the earliest”.

While encouraging the village chiefs to lead their respective villagers by first getting themselves vaccinated, MLA Nemcha Kipgen said that we need to put our shoulders together on the wheels to protect and save our people from Coronavirus and overcome it.

She said that we are fortunate that our Prime Minister provides us the best COVID-19 vaccines in the world, the Covishield, which is now highly recommended to people who are to travel abroad, “and for the convenience of my people I am providing free transportation for vaccination”.

Therefore, it is high time to think about our future and get vaccinated willingly, without any hesitation and doubt, she added.

Dr. Paotinlal Haokip, MS District Hospital Kangpokpi and Dr. Pilhing, MO in charge of PHC Kalapahar also emphasized extensively about COVID vaccination during the seminar while clearing any doubt raised by the village chiefs during the awareness seminar.

The village chief of the Tujang area expressed sincere gratitude to the local MLA Nemcha Kipgen and chief of S Molnom Haotinlen Vaiphei, both advisors of Tujang Area Chiefs’ Organization for their concern towards the people and organizing such an important awareness program.

The village chief decided to conduct COVID-19 vaccination on a cluster in the Tujang area after ground preparation with COVID Task Force Tujang area.

At Kholjang, 110 beneficiaries were vaccinated with Covishield while 269 beneficiaries were vaccinated at Haipi village under Kangpokpi Assembly Constituency on Sunday.

At Taphou Kuki village, around 221 people were vaccinated as per the official report.

COVID Vaccination Bus provided by the local MLA started service in ferrying people from different locations for vaccination at Inspection Bungalow in Kangpokpi District Headquarters since Saturday as the turnout for vaccination started increasing in Kangpokpi assembly constituency.

The bus service was first availed by Kalapahar denizens under the supervision of CTF Kalapahar and thanked the local MLA for making vaccination easier and convenient for the people.

Meanwhile, out of 22 security personnel of 7th MR stationed at Kangpokpi Police Station tested on Sunday, six personnel were found infected with the dreaded COVID-19.

With seven new cases detected on Sunday and 13 cured and discharged in the past 24 hours, the active case in the district stands at 113.

The death toll in Kangpokpi reached 40 after a 30 years old Abom, daughter of Nungton of Konsakhul Kangpokpi succumbed to the dreaded COVID-19 yesterday at JNIMS Hospital Imphal at around 3:10 am.
