Manipur education minister S Rajen Singh on Wednesday asserted that there is no room for service extension of employees in the Education Department.

The minister was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of the 2-Day State Level Workshop on “Assessment and Accreditation of Colleges held at DM College of Teacher Education, Imphal, as per official sources.

He said that extension of service for the government employees has discouraged junior employees of the department. Many eligible government employees who can be promoted to a superior post are simply suppressed by such a system of service extension. The system is in practice in many government departments in the state which is not encourageable, the minister added.

Rajen said that state colleges are still not excelling in NAAC scoring. We are lagging behind in this regard. He maintained that there have been sensitisation and awareness programmes conducted in colleges (government and aided) of the government regarding NAAC score. This campaign will go on and on, the minister informed.

He maintained that NEP 2020 has brought a new dimension to the education sector in the country. The state has also constituted a state-level task force and Sub-task Force headed by responsible officers of the education department for successful implementation of NEP.

Minister Rajen also advised that the college authorities of the state should keep college campuses neat and clean. Teaching and non-teaching staff should be punctual and work with sincerity.

He also opined that there is a need for working together in cooperation and understanding. The government is committed to addressing the grievances of the employees of the education department, he added.
