Minister Biswajit inducted in BJP National Executive Committee

BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda on Thursday appointed minister Thongam Biswajit Singh as a member of the BJP National Executive Committee, the decision making body of the party. 

The National Executive Committee has 80 members including Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, senior leaders Lal Krishna Advani and Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi, former national presidents and union ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah and Nitin Gadkari, floor leader in Rajya Sabha and union minister Piyush Goyal and national office bearers. 

Since JP Nadda took over as party president in January 2020, this was the first appointment of the national executive by him.

Other members of the 80-member committee from the Northeast included union minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijju (Arunachal Pradesh) Bijoya Chakravarty (Assam), MLA AL Hek, MLA (Meghalaya), and  MP Pratima Bhowmik (Tripura). 

In a statement, the party said that the National Executive Committee will also have 50 Special Invitees and 179 Permanent Invitees (ex officio) which includes chief ministers, deputy chief ministers, leader of the legislative party in Assemblies and Councils, former chief ministers and former deputy chief ministers, national spokespersons, national morcha presidents, state prabharis/sah-prabharis, state presidents, state general secretaries (Organisation) and sanghathaks.

Among the national executive members dropped by JP Nadda are former union ministers Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Vijay Goel and Dr. C.P. Thakur; current Union Ministers Rao Inderjit Singh, Ashwani Kumar Choubey and Prahlad Singh Patel; Rajya Sabha member Subramanian Swamy. Lok Sabha members Maneka Gandhi and her son, Varun Gandhi, were also dropped. 

Some of the newly appointed members included union ministers Smriti Irani and Jyotiraditya Scindia. 

Reports said a meeting of the national executive, which was last held in 2019 during Amit Shah’s tenure as party president, could be held on November 7.

It may be mentioned that chief minister N Biren Singh, minister Biswajit, and BJP state unit president A Sharda Devi recently rushed to Delhi. According to reports, several matters relating to the 2022 state general election were discussed during a meeting with JP Nadda, Amit Shah and other leaders of the party.
