Manipur Hills Journalists’ Union (MHJU) has vehemently condemned the brutal assault of journalist Elangbam Rameshwor, Thoubal Correspondent for Naharolgi Thoudang on the morning of 24th October, 2021 by some unidentified miscreants.
In a press note, MHJU general secretary S Nengkhanlun and president Peter Adani said the media fraternity is “shocked and pained” to witness such an act of frequently attacking the journalist and demanded immediate justice for the victim.
MHJU said it viewed the incident seriously and appealed to the state government to book the culprits involved and provide assistance to the victim who had to be hospitalized after the incident.
“The concerned authorities are urged to take up the matter seriously and book those culprits behind the attack on the scribe and take immediate necessary action urgently. It is disheartening to note that journalists in their line of duty are not safe and frequently harmed”, said MHJU.
The union also expressed solidarity with Elangbam Rameshwor and his family members.
Earlier, the Ukhrul District Working Journalists’ Association (UDWJA) had also strongly condemned the attack on Thoubal Correspondent of a daily Naharolgi Thoudang Elangbam Rameshwor.
“This act is viewed as an attack on “freedom of expression,” and must be condemned by every right thinking citizen,” said a statement issued by UDWJA president Addie Chiphang and secretary Ricky Angkang.
