Manipur reports more than 1000 new COVID-19 cases for two days in row

Active cases surge to 8,558. Out of 7,039 test results received, 1,039 samples tested positive. Positivity rate stands at 14.73 per cent.

For the second day in a row, Manipur reported new COVID-19 cases above 1,000. The state reported 1,039 fresh cases out of 7,039 tests, with a 14.73 per cent positivity rate.

In the last 24 hours, the State Level Covid 19 Deaths Audit Committee reported 14 COVID-19 deaths, taking the death toll to 1,340. The deceased are — five from Imphal West, three each from Bishnupur and Churachandpur, two from Kangpokpi, and one from Kakching.

The number of active cases in the state surged to 8,558. Out of these 3,436 are in home isolation and 2,374 are in Community Home Isolation Centre. 

As per the health department, 2,090 beds are available and 2,287 patients have been admitted. As of Wednesday, the number of patients admitted or adjusted against available bed strengths in different treatment facilities in the state are — RIMS (223 out of 224), JNIMS (221 out of 286), I Land Hospital (28 out of 60), District Covid Facilities (145 out of 347), MSF (26 out of 30), Private Covid Hospitals (219 out of 330) and CCCs (1,271 out of 2,946).

Imphal West and Imphal East with 289 and 270 new cases respectively, continue to be the most affected districts. The other positive cases from the general population are 98 from Churachandpur, 94 from Bishnupur, 85 from Kakching, 72 from Thoubal, 44 from Tamenglong, 26 from Noney, 23 from Chandel, 15 from Senapati, 12 from Kangpokpi, five from Kamjong, four from Tengnoupal, one each from Ukhrul and Pherzawl.

On Thursday, 677 persons were discharged from — Home Isolation (298), RIMS (19), JNIMS (14), CCCs (147), and CHICs (199). The recovery rate has dipped to 87.86 per cent.

The total number of infections in the state has reached 81,560.

As per the health department, in the last 24 hours, a total of 1780 D-type Oxygen cylinders and 390 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health facilities of Manipur. District hospitals and government institutions have 405 D, 104 B type filled cylinders.

On Wednesday, 34,194 doses of COVID vaccine were administered. So far a total of 9,55,923 doses have been administered — 8,52,179 first dose and 1,03,744 second dose.
