The Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL), Tangkhul Youth Council, on Sunday expressed its displeasure at the state government’s failure to acknowledge or appreciate Miss Solimla Jajo and Miss Solan Jajo, who represented India in the 54th Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship 2022.
The council is perturbed to have known the state government’s indifference to the two female athletes of Kamjong District, said TMNL president Somatai Machinao in a statement.
The statement said, “Solimla Jajo clinched the Silver Medal after competing in the Junior Model Physique under-165 cm category while Solan Jajo secured the fourth position in under-160 cm category.”
With this successful feat in the continental competition, they have been qualified to participate in the upcoming World Championship 2022 in Thailand in the month of December, it added.
“Their achievement, Solimla’s in particular, is one among many proud moments brought to the state by athletes, sportsmen and sportswomen. Despite this fact, it is quite dismaying that, so far, there has been no act of acknowledgement or appreciation from the state government,” said the statement.
The Council is concerned since the Chief Minister, on many previous occasions, has been very keen and spontaneous to act out expressing his acknowledgement and support which goes viral on social media platforms, it said.
The Council expressed concern over the inconsistent act of the Chief Minister but at the same time anticipate that a befitting acknowledgement and support in various forms will be duly given to the athletes opportunely.
