“It is well known that large consignments of medicine including COVID Testing Kits worth lakhs and crores of Rupees were trafficked along the route, crossing the same security check points without any hindrance. And there is no doubt that influential persons were also involved in such smuggling,” the student body said.

The Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) Moreh block strongly denounced alleged frequent obstruction of transporting medicine for medical stores in Moreh town by 20 Assam Rifles. It urged security forces, particularly 20 AR, not to obstruct pharma consignment which were meant for chemists in Moreh town.

KSO Moreh, in a release on Thursday, maintained that it is against the illegal trading and smuggling of medicine along Imphal-Moreh road.

The student body also said that it is not against the AR’s initiative in tracking and seizing smuggled medicines. Instead, it appreciated the effort of Assam Rifles in apprehending such illegal consignments.

However the organisation asserted that it is also much against the frequent obstruction of medicine transported for chemists or pharmacies in Morch town.

The student body accused the Tengnoupal battalion, 20 Assam Rifles of obstructing medicine consignment which were purely meant for chemists in Moreh town. Moreh residents have been facing scarcity of pharmaceutical drugs and medicine since the 20 AR have deliberately blocked and seized such medicines.

“It is well known that large consignment of medicine including COVID Testing Kits worth lakhs and crores of Rupees were trafficked along the route, crossing the same security check points without any hindrance. And there is no doubt that influential persons were also involved in such smuggling”.

While such large consignment of smuggled medicines crossed security check points without any obstacle, KSO said that the 20 Assam Rifles at Tengnoupal and other checkpoints had obstructed transportation of few quantities pharma consignment meant for chemist in Moreh town

Moreover, KSO said it has received a report about a particular chemist in Moreh town indulging in medicine smuggling by colluding with high ranking security officers. It is also learnt that some individuals in collusion with security forces indulge in cross border trafficking of Oxygen concentrators and COVID testing kits, it added.

KSO Moreh Block warned the particular chemist and other individuals to stop their activities, failing which the KSO would be ‘compelled’ to expose all these ‘unholy nexus’.
