The proposed total shutdown to begin from 5 am of March 7 in the hill districts and imposed by Kuki Students’ Organisation has been held in abeyance after assurance from the state government during a meeting on Sunday.
The student body proposed to impose 24-hour total shutdown in the hill districts after alleging that the state government and authorities concerned were not taking any action against the commando personnel involved in the alleged assault of KSO Sadar Hills General Secretary at Kalapahar on March 3. KSO also demanded the  removal of police commando personnel from the hill areas.
According to the Department of Information and Publicity, KSO General Headquarters, a meeting was held with the state government representatives led by the state DGP and the KSO representatives led by KSO GHQ General Secretary Seiboi Touthang,  at the DGP’s office chamber on Sunday afternoon in the presence of various other top-ranking police officials.
During the meeting, the state government had assured to resolve the issue within three days, i.e till March 9, and asked for that particular period to be given, it added.
KSO said that considering the assurance, the organisation had decided to give three more days to the state government and decided to hold the total shutdown in abeyance for the time being.
However, if the government failed to keep its promise within the stipulated time, the total shutdown in the hill districts will be imposed from midnight of March 9 until the issue is resolved.
It may be recalled that the KSO had demanded the removal of police commandos from the hill areas and appropriate action against the commando personnel involved in assaulting the General Secretary of KSO Sadar Hills within two days.
Meanwhile, the All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur, all KSO units and Sadar Hills Private Schools Association have endorsed the KSO’s proposed stir.
