Kangpokpi police rescue two abducted Assam natives, kidnappers flee

Search operations are on for the kidnappers  in the suspected locations. The rescued persons were handed over to Assam police after due formalities.

Kangpokpi police on Saturday rescued two persons from Assam who were kidnapped by armed miscreants from Kangpokpi.

According to the police, on August 26, they received the information that three persons from Assam who came to Kangpokpi were kidnapped around 1.30 pm on August 25.

One of the kidnapped persons was released on August 26 evening. He was asked to bring Rs 50 lakh as ransom money. His release came to the knowledge of district police only after he reached Bokajan, Assam on August 27 morning. After coordinating with SP Karbi Anglong Pushparaj Singh, Assam police along with the released victim reached Kangpokpi HQ in the intervening night of August 27 and 28. The Kangpokpi district police assured for safe rescue of the two persons who are still under detention of the kidnappers.

Under the supervision of SP Kangpokpi Karthik Malladi, four police teams were formed including Assam police. The teams were led by Thangkhochon Haokip, Addl. SP(L&O), Kangpokpi; Insp Jangkhohao Haokip, OC-Gamnom Sapermina PS, Insp Henminthang Kipgen, OC-Kangpokpi PS and SI S Raju Singh of KPI PS and SI Haokam Changsan, 2nd OC-Bokajan PS (Karbi Anglong, Assam).

The released victim was asked by the kidnappers to come to a location with the ransom money. After a discrete operation of more than 6 hours, one person was arrested. Upon interrogation of the arrested person and using technological means, the suspected location of the kidnappers was identified and a rescue operation was launched after sunset.

Probably, seeing the police parties approaching from multiple sides, the kidnappers fled the spot and the kidnapped persons were rescued safely. Search operations for the kidnappers are on in the suspected locations. The rescued persons were handed over to Assam police after due formalities.
