A team of doctors at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science (JNIMS) has successfully operated on a COVID patient, who was having a blood clot in his brain. The patient was brought unconscious to JNIMS casualty on Tuesday, said an official on Wednesday.

The neurosurgicateam took up the operation with the limited infrastructure/ facilities at midnight within four hours of his arrival at the hospital, added the official.

Koijam Manao (43) of Ekou, Khundrakpam assembly constituency was having multiple complaints for the last five days. He also had a history of trauma from an incident that took place one month back.

Manao was confirmed as COVID positive on Tuesday itself and was referred from a private hospital. At around midnight, a team of doctors and nurses led by Dr Kh Vyas (Asst professor) and Dr Nidin PA (Neurosurgery SR) operated on the patient, said the official. Other members include Dr Rabindra (Anesthetist), Dr Deva Nathan PG 3rd year Anesthetist), Naresh OT technician and staff nurses Shillenbi, Thoibi and Bobika, he added.

It was diagnosed that liquefied blood was compressing his brain. This type of case is apparently common and can be treated easily if diagnosed early.

The condition of the patient is said to be stable at present, the doctors said.
