Indigenous People’s Association of Kangleipak (IPAK) demanded that the six doctors who were posted at the Ukhrul District Hospital should explain in public why they did not join their place of posting for so long. The Health Department should also initiate action against them, IPAK asserted.

IPAK, in a release on Saturday said that a complaint letter has also been sent to the director of the Health Department in this regard.

According to the letter, the six doctors — Dr. Tikendrajit Ningombam (Anaesthetists), Dr. Md. Yahia Khan (Gynecologist), Dr. M. Sanjeet – MO, Dr. Geetchandra Tonbram (MO), Dr. N Pinky Chanu  (Specialist ENT), and Dr. Priyadarshini Sougrakpam (MO), never joined their new posting hospital at Ukhrul District Hospital even issuing their transfer and posting orders dated January 27, 2021 for Dr. Tikendrajit Ningombam and January 12, 2021 for the rest of them.

IPAK said that the Directorate of Health and Medicine should take action against these six doctors to join their posting place immediately. If failed or defied the instruction of concerned departmental order, their practicing licenses should be canceled by the Directorate of Health & Medicine, it added.

IPAK contended that some doctors are more interested in earning more money by practicing privately and as such they are not staying at their place of posting and instead are confined to the valley. At such a crucial period of the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, the people of Ukhrul are in dire straits. It is utter negligence and unethical practice of their profession by not serving the people, it added.

It may be mentioned that the Manipur Government had recently instructed all the doctors, nurses and medical staff to remain in their place of posting and serve the people 24×7.
