IED Attack on ITBP in Wangoo: Five arrested, three detonators seized

Kakching police on Friday arrested five persons who were allegedly involved in the IED explosion that injured the ITBP personnel at Wangoo Tera on 20 February 2022. Three detonators and three batteries for remote were recovered from their house

According to police, following IED explosion in Wangoo Tera and the subsequent discovery of another IED, teams of Kakching police had undertaken several efforts to detect the conspiracy and the culprits behind the crime. An FRI was registered at Wangoo Police station under sections 307/326/34 IPC & sec 3/5 Explosives Substances act.

In the course of the investigation, an operation was conducted by the Commando Unit led by Binoy Chongtham, MPS, Addl. SP ( OPS) Kakching and Md Abash Khan, OC-CDO, Kakching under the overall supervision of Shrey Vats, IPS, SP Kakching, a police statement said. The operation commenced in Wangoo Nurathel Area at 3 am on Friday based on credible intelligence input, it added.

During the operation, five persons were arrested. The accused persons were involved in the three IED explosions, including 20 February 2022 IED attack on ITBP personnel, the IED blast on 26 January 2022 at Kakching Khunou Lamkhai near Uyok Bridge as well as one IED blast in Wangoo Lamkhai area in early hours of 26 January 2022, claimed the statement.

The statement further said two of the accused who were involved in the attacks had gone to Moreh/Tamu in the beginning of January and received one day training in handling of IED from PREPAK cadres. The accused were in touch with PREPAK cadres from Myanmar and executed the explosions on their directives.

The five arrested were identified as Okram Manitomba @ Ango Meitei , 20, resident of Wangoo Mamang Sabal Nurathel Leikai; Soroikhambam Goroba Singh @ Ngangba, 19, resident of Pangantabi Makha Leikai; Soroikhambam Arbin Singh, 26, resident of Wangoo Mamang Sabal; Thongam Singhajit Meitei, 20, resident of Wangoo Mamang Sabal and Irengbam Gitchandra , 53, resident of Wangoo Mamang Sabal

Upon house search of the house of the accused, three detonators and three batteries for remote were recovered, police said.

During interrogation, the accused persons disclosed that there was plan to plant another IED in March but location was not disclosed to them, added police.
