Girl Up Manipur, the very first Manipur based club under the Girl Up Campaign initiated by United Nations Foundation, launched its official website on Wednesday — girlupmanipur.org.

Girl Up is a global leadership development initiative founded in 2010 that positions girls to be leaders in the gender equality discourse. Girl Up works across a global community to achieve gender equality worldwide.

“We are a movement aimed at improving gender equality and breaking the existing gender stereotypes by providing resources and a platform for social change. Through this initiative, we aspire to educate the mass on the various inequalities present in society. This club is an inclusive community striving towards an intersectional feminist movement,” the website said.

The club has been playing its part in fighting the COVID-19 in Manipur through voluntary works like free meal project for COVID patients providing other resources like ambulance service, helpline numbers, pharmacies, oxygen suppliers, hospitals, doctors for consultation, mental health support, care taker services, vaccination centres among others. One can now access all these services through their website.

The data collection and its verification process was completely done by Girl Up Manipur and our collaboration partners — the members of Mingsel foundation, Paomi post, Go Green Group, Kihom, Ya_all NorthEast and Girl Up Khonjel, the club said in a statement.

For clearing the doubts in the minds of the public regarding COVID-19, the club has specially conducted Q&As with qualified doctors. Keeping in mind that mental health is equally as important as physical health, a Q&A session with a mental health professional was also conducted, where a range of questions related to mental health were addressed.

One of the club’s members told TFM that one of the perks of volunteering during the pandemic is the bond that is being developed with the COVID patients. She also expressed happiness in serving the people during such dire situations.
