Four dead as armed men open fire upon civilians gathered to condole death of Kuki militants

At least four individuals died on Tuesday after unidentified armed militants opened fire upon a group of civilians gathered to condole the killing of four KNLA cadres on Sunday by security forces. The incident happened at around noon on Tuesday at Bongbal Khullen, Kangpokpi district. 

Three individuals have been able to be identified, according to sources. Amongst the dead, Paolal Kipgen was the chief of NP Khullen village. The other two are — Lunjamang Kipgen of B Gamnom village and Jamkholam Khongsai of Saichang village. No outfit has claimed responsibility for the incident at the time of filing this report. 

It may be mentioned that on Sunday, four suspected Kuki militants were killed in a gun battle at Hingojang village in Phailengmol Island block in Kangpokpi district. 

Assam Rifles personnel and the Indian Army’s Spear Corps launched a joint operation at Hingojang on Saturday and cordoned off the area. The gunbattle broke out in the morning. Four bodies of heavily armed suspected KNLA cadres were recovered later. 

The deceased have been identified as Paotinthang Kipgen of B Gamnom village, Ngamjapao Khongsai of B Gamnom village, Thangkholun Gangte of Laizon Veng, Churachandpur and Lamminthang Haokip of Songpijang village, Churachandpur.
