Four active cadres of ZUF (K) arrested, arms seized

Zeliangrong United Front – Kamson group (ZUF-K), is allegedly involved in the frequent extortion, threatening, making disturbances to the Indian Railways Companies’ workers, the transporters/vehicles plying at NH-2 (Imphal-Jiri Road) and general public.

Imphal East police arrested four cadres of Zeliangrong United Front – Kamson group (ZUF-K), allegedly involved in extortion and other unlawful activities along the Imphal-Jiribam road, along with arms and ammunition from the New Checkon area.

The arrested cadres have been identified as — Duanthuingam Golmei (30) S/o Rakhupou Golmei of Goiteng Village, Khoupum; Gaikhuongam Runagmei (41) S/o Rangjai Ruangmei of Muktina Village, Nungba PS; Tangambou Marenmai (45) S/o (Late) Masingbou Marenmei of Phonglang Akutpa Village, Kangpokpi PS and Jangailung Golmei (24) S/o Makudin Golmei of Muktina Village, Nungba PS.

Duanthuingam Golmei and Gaikhuongam Runagmei are s/s 2nd lieutenant of ZUF-K, while Tangambou Marenmai and Jangailung Golmei are private of ZUF-K.

One HK Rifle 33 along with a magazine, two RPG (Rocket Propelled Grenade) launchers, one SLR (Self Loading Rifle) and seven mobile phones were seized during the operation.

Imphal East superintendent of police N Herojit Meetei briefed the media at the conference hall of the SP office, Porompat, regarding the arrests.

He said that at around 9:00 pm on Thursday, the police received a reliable information regarding the presence of some active cadres of the outlaw organisation ZUF-K, who were involved in the frequent extortion, threatening, making disturbances to the Indian Railways Companies workers, the transporters/vehicles plying at NH-2 (Imphal-Jiri Road) and general public for conducting or organising meeting in and around New Checkon area.

Based on the information, teams of CDO/IE Unit led by OC-CDO/IE Inspt Kh Henery Singh, under the command of Addl SP(Ops)IE Roni Mayengbam, and under the overall supervision of the SP himself,  conducted a CI Ops at the New Checkon area. During the operation the four active cadres of the outlaw organisation ZUF-K were arrested from New-Checkon near KR Lane playground, at around 10:45 pm. Seven mobile phones were seized from them, the SP said.

On further verification of the arrestees, the SP said it was learnt that they had concealed some arms and ammunition at Noney area, which they used to carry out their unlawful activities.

Immediately, in view of the urgency that the arms and ammunition might be shifted to some other places, a combined team of CDO/IE Unit and 10th and 15th AR along with the arrested cadres rushed to Noney Part-V, at about 11:00 pm after providing prior information to concerned authorities.

On reaching the said place, SP Herojit said that the combined team cordoned the area and launched a search operation at about 1:30 am Friday. At the southern side of the village, the combined team found traces or signs of people staying at the top of a hillock which remained inhabited for many months.

On the revelation of one of the cadres, Gaikhuongam, the combined team conducted further search operations more minutely. At about 150 meters away towards the northern side of the top of the said hillock, near a bush, the combined team detected a suspicious location and on checking the place the arms and ammunition were recovered which was buried. The combined team continued the search operation till 6:00 am Friday, the SP informed.

The arrested individuals along with the seized arms and ammunition were handed over to Porompat Police Station for further necessary legal action against them.
