Former Minister Haokholet Kipgen, chief of Hengbung village, who is also the former National Vice President BJP ST Morcha has announced that he will be contesting the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly from 51-Saitu Assembly Constituency. In connection with the election, a public declaration cum blessing programme was held at his village Hengbung on Thursday.
The 64 years old veteran politician and the only candidate to win the state election uncontested in (1998) the history of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, made the official announcement in the presence of all tribes’ leaders within 51-Saitu assembly constituency, village chiefs, youth leaders, ex-MDCs, various leaders, etc.
Haokholet Kipgen had earlier announced that he was 99.9 per cent confident of getting a BJP ticket, asserted, “I will definitely win the election with the love and support of the people of Saitu assembly constituency”.
The third senior-most BJP leader in the hill districts of Manipur, Kipgen said, “I have decided to contest the election to bring sustainable peace so that people of Saitu assembly constituency settle and live peacefully and with a desire to contribute to the state and national level policy making”.
During the programme, Rev Letkhothong Haokip invoked the blessing prayer for the intending candidate and his Election Core Committee.
Mangkhosat Kipgen, chief of Leikot who is the genealogical head of the Kipgen clan said, “I am confident of his winning so I urged the people of Saitu to support and cooperate him in his fight”.
Tribe leaders of Saitu assembly constituency including Liangmei, Chiru, Rongmei, Vaiphei, Koireng, Nepali, Haokip, Kom , etc. also spoke on the occasion and declare their support to Haokholet Kipgen.
